Greg Biffle nails the mark with a tenth-place finish at Watkins Glen for the Wii name. August 12, 2007 @ 18:19 - Kevin As previously reported, the Wii name was painted on the hood of a Ford Fusion for NASCAR's #16 Cup driver, Greg Biffle. Roush Racing graciously provided the Wii-marked advertising vessel with a driver to bring it up front. A valid concern when we first learned of this was, "Even if Biffle makes the race with Nintendo's sponsorship, are we guaranteed to see it anywhere near the head of the pack?" As a NASCAR fan (but perhaps not a Wii fan) would know, the sponsors who benefit the most from raceday display are the ones whose drivers place the best. Had the Wii car crashed, wrecked, or burst into flame on Sunday, the gains made by Nintendo's marketing strategy would likely have been unfavorable. This is why sponsors hope to sign the most skilled driver available to keep their product or franchise up front. Well, Biffle was a darn good choice. He managed to place tenth on Sunday, putting Wii right where everyone could see. Digg: Grep: |

Napagirl says: I think if Biffle's car had burst into flame, it would have been seen every hour on the hour on ESPN's news show and brought Wii even more coverage/attention. I don't know if Biffle would agree with that but there is a saying that goes something like "Any media attention is good media attention". When does this car race again? Does anyone know? |
